Artist's Comments

As most of you know, Orphan Works is a bill or something like that that is currently before Congress which states that unless you spend hundreds legally copyrighting your art, anyone can use it, and if you're selling it someone else could sell it and make money that should be yours.

IT'S NOT GONNA HAPPEN.

Tons and tons and tons of bills go to Congress all the time and almost all of them don't get through. So before everyone starts piddling themselves over this and going on strike before it's even considered, think about the possibility that it won't pass first. I don't want to see all my favorite artists going into hiding before the bill is even passed. Or whatever it is. If you feel the same way, use this stamp.

This was basically inspired by =Samwich's journal.

Stamp template is here: [link]

and if everyone takes this opinion, and nobody says anything against the bill, and it does pass...what then?

If you actually read the information on the copyright.gov website, it would tell you exactly why this bill isn't what everyone thinks it is. =/

yeeeeaaa, i was getting my information from an article that was 50% incorrect and 50% lies, upon further inspection i have found the bill doesn't even exist anymore, it was thrown out of the house of reps back in 2006, and your right, even when it was there, the wording wasn't as extreme as i had been lead to believe. my bad guys, sorry

I think most of us had knee-jerk reactions to it :)

Except that the bill is being rewritten and is about to be reintroduced, and is likely to be fast-tracked on the recommendation of the libraries' lobby. It is NOT as extreme as many seem to think it is, but it IS a problem, and it WILL lead to it being much easier to commit art theft.
